How Churches Can Use AI to Create Consistent, Impactful Content

How Churches Can Use AI to Create Consistent, Impactful Content

The other day, I had the opportunity to speak on the Gusto Gathers: Advancing Black Businesses with AI panel during Atlanta Tech Week. Afterward, someone came up to me and shared that their church was struggling with creating content online.

My immediate response?
“Wow. Churches are some of the easiest organizations to create content for.”

In hindsight, probably not the most sensitive thing to say—because I do understand the challenges. But here’s the truth:
Churches have so many opportunities to systemize their content on a weekly basis.

The issue usually isn’t a lack of content. The real issue is not having a process for turning all that content into something consistent and sustainable—especially when you’re relying on volunteers with varying levels of commitment, experience, or availability. When you don’t know who’s going to follow through each week, it gets hard to manage.

We’ll save the systems conversation for another day. But for now, let’s talk about how to actually create content at your church using what you already have.

Every single week, your pastor delivers 45+ minutes of meaningful content. That message—full of hope, wisdom, and encouragement—is one of the main reasons people come to church. So why not translate that online?

With a little organization—and a little help from AI—you can turn that weekly sermon into a week’s (or even a month’s) worth of content that feeds your community, reaches new people, and strengthens your church’s online presence.

Here are a few simple ways your church can use AI to make content creation easier and more consistent:

1. Start with the Sermon

If your pastor writes sermons ahead of time, ask for the notes, scriptures, or even just their outline. You can feed that into an AI tool (like ChatGPT) and ask it to:

  • Pull out key themes or quotes
  • Create reflection questions for your audience
  • Generate scripture-based captions
  • Summarize the message into a short blog or newsletter

If the sermon is already recorded, even better—you can transcribe it and work from the full text.

Pro Tip: If you can get the pastor to do a quick introduction to the sermon, you can share that on Sundays to invite people to church.

2. Use AI to Break Down the Message

Once you have a transcript of the sermon, ask AI to:

  • Identify notable or shareable moments
  • Draft 5–10 social media posts
  • Suggest titles or hooks for YouTube or Facebook
  • Turn sermon points into a weekly content series

You could easily stretch one message across 5–7 days of content, especially if you focus on quality over quantity.

3. Create Video Clips with Intention

If your church records sermons, upload the video to a tool like Descript and highlight powerful moments and extract short-form video clips for Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts, or Facebook. You can then feed the short clips into the Captions app to add engaging captions or even use their ai edit option to make the video more engage.

Pro Tip: Don’t just use what ai gives you. Use your on church images and branding to modify the ai editor to make it more relatable.

4. Capture the Community

AI is powerful, but it’s not everything. You still need photos and video of the actual people that go to your church

Every Sunday, make it a goal to take a few photos:

  • Worship moments
  • People greeting each other
  • Behind-the-scenes glimpses
  • Volunteers in action

Then use those images to create simple, heartfelt posts:

  • “We’d love to see you Sunday!”
  • “Here’s a look inside our church family.”
  • “Service starts at 10AM. You’re invited.”

Sometimes, just showing up in people’s feeds with a warm photo and a welcoming word is enough to make someone consider visiting.

5. Promote Your Events

Churches usually have great programming—but often forget to post about it consistently. Here’s the rhythm I recommend:

  • Monthly: Post a carousel of all upcoming events so your congregation can plan ahead
  • Before the event: Share a flyer, description, or invite
  • During the event: Capture real-time moments (photo or video)
  • After the event: Share a recap, quote, or thank-you post

Pro Tip: Use our content calendar to plan out your content ahead of time. Use a social media scheduling tool to ensure you not posting everything in real time.

Final Thoughts

If you’re part of a church that’s trying to grow, connect, or just stay visible online—AI can help you make the most of what you’re already doing. There’s no need to reinvent the wheel every week.
You have the content.
You have the stories.
You just need a system to bring it to life.

And AI can absolutely be part of that system.
